Abstract: ABSTRACT POLARIZATION-CONVERTING HYBRID CHESSBOARD-CODING METASURFACE FOR WIDEBAND RADAR CROSS-SECTION REDUCTION A metasurface device (100) for radar cross-section reduction includes a dielectric substrate (10) with a conductive ground plane (20) on a bottom surface and a plurality of polarization-converting unit cells (30) on a top surface. Each polarization-converting unit cell (30) includes a circular conductive patch (32) with a symmetrical oblique slot structure (34) that divides the patch into resonating sections for polarization conversion. A first polarization-converting metasurface cell (PCMS1) and a mirrored second polarization-converting metasurface cell (PCMS2) provide opposite phase responses. A coding metasurface region (40) arranges the cells according to a coding sequence to redistribute reflected waves into multiple scattering directions. A chessboard metasurface region (50) arranges the cells in an alternating pattern to generate destructive interference through phase cancellation. The coding metasurface region (40) and the chessboard metasurface region (50) are integrated within a single planar structure to form a hybrid combined chessboard and coding metasurface (CCMS) array (60).
