Abstract: A point-of-care infectious disease detection device, comprises a disposable assay cartridge to receive a clinical sample and perform a sandwich binding assay for at least one infectious disease target, a disposable assay cartridge to receive a clinical sample and perform a sandwich binding assay for at least one infectious disease target, a capture region comprising immobilized capture bio recognition elements to bind the at least one infectious disease target and to form a quantum dot labeled sandwich complex when the infectious disease target is present, an excitation source to illuminate the capture region at an excitation wavelength suitable for the quantum dots, an optical detection unit to measure an emission signal, a processing unit to determine presence or absence of the at least one infectious disease target based on the quantitative assay output and to output a diagnostic result within a point-of-care timeframe.
