Abstract: The present invention is related to a self-contained assistive interface device which allows a person having severe motor impairment to control both the movement and the selection functions of a computer using only a hand-operable cursor control interface and controlled breath. The device combines a cursor control interface (102), such as a joystick, with a differential pneumatic sensor (103) for switch actuation, both being coupled to a microcontroller unit (101). The device features a Clamped Adaptive Threshold Algorithm which continuously monitors the user's breath intensity and utilizes a rolling history of peak input values to dynamically lower the actuation threshold as the user fatigues, while a logic comparator enforces a pre-determined Safety Floor that prevents the dynamic threshold from dropping below the environmental noise floor. The device further features a Cross-Reference Calibration Protocol which utilizes cursor activity as a gating mechanism for pressure-sensor baseline maintenance, preventing a sustained breath-hold from being misinterpreted as sensor drift. A manual calibration button (104) and a manual sensitivity selection button (105) provide direct user override, and the device communicates with a host computer (106) by way of a standard USB HID protocol (107) without requiring host-side software drivers.
