Abstract: PLAY PORTAL PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRPTION FIELD OF THE INVENTION (PRODUCT DESIGN) This invention relates to children's furniture a convertible modular furniture system having detachable load-bearing panels configurable between a vertical storage mode and a horizontal flooruse mode. RACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Children's pop-up storybooks demonstrate structural transformation through mechanical unfolding, converting flat pages into three-dimensional forms. This principle of spatial conversion highlights the potential for furniture systems that shift between configurations while maintaining structural stability. Conventional children's storage furniture, such as fixed shelving units, is static in nature and designed solely for storage. These systems do not permit structural reconfiguration by the child and lack integrated functional adaptability. In typical environments, storage units and play surfaces exist as separate elements, resulting in inefficient space utilization and limited multifunctional performance. Furthermore, most shelving systems are not designed for safe, repeated detachment or user-led structural transformation. There is a need for a modular furniture system that integrates storage and play within a single framework, allowing controlled transformation without tools and is space saving. Such a system should incorporate safe, detachable structural panels, child-operable joinery, and stable load-bearing performance. The present invention addresses this requirement through a convertible rack-to-mat furniture assembly that enables structural reconfiguration while maintaining safety, durability, and functional efficiency. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The invention comprises a children's convertible shelving unit with a vertical support frame and multiple removable horizontal rack panels designed for dual structural configuration. When inserted into the frame, each panel functions as a load-bearing storage shelf; when removed, it serves as a flat floor mat for reading, sitting, drawing, or play. Each panel is lightweight, internally reinforced to support weight, and fitted with an anti-slip underside for floor stability. The system incorporates a tool-free tongue-and-groove engagement mechanism, with horizontal grooves in the inner faces of the vertical supports and matching tongue extensions on the panels. Upon sliding into position, a gravity-assisted locking notch secures the panel against unintended displacement. Disengagement is achieved through a controlled lift-and-tilt motion, allowing safe release and smooth removal by the child .
