Abstract: An autonomous robotic system and method for targeted plastic waste collection, classification, and geospatial pollution mapping are disclosed. The system comprises an autonomous mobile robotic chassis, an onboard edge-AI vision module, an embedded microcontroller unit, and a pneumatic extraction assembly. Unlike conventional sweepers that use continuous mechanical brushes and indiscriminate suction, which fragment brittle plastics into microplastics, the system follows a "detect-then-extract" approach. The vision module captures imagery, detects and classifies plastic items by material type, and transmits target coordinates to the microcontroller. The chassis centers a non-contact extraction nozzle over the target, whereupon a pulse-width modulation controller drives a brushless blower motor from idle to a short, high velocity suction pulse, lifting the item into a cyclonic separation hopper without mechanical contact. Items are routed into material-specific bins, and collection coordinates are logged to generate a pollution-hotspot map. The system enables selective recovery, lower energy consumption, and reduced microplastics.
