The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a plant-derived edible gel coating composition (100) for application to cherry fruits to inhibit microbial adhesion and biofilm formation, regulate moisture transfer, reduce post-harvest deterioration, and maintain fruit quality and storage stability. The plant-derived natural edible gel coating composition 100 comprises 56 to 60 weight percentage of okra mucilage (102), 11 to 14 weight percentage of pomegranate peel extract (104), 11 to 14 weight percentage of guava leaf extract (106), 5 to 9 weight percentage of mango ginger extract (108), 6 to 10 weight percentage of honey syrup (110), and 1 to 3 of banana peel ash extract (112), where the combined formulation constitutes 100 % v/v. The proposed edible gel coating composition (100) reduces microbial attachment, microbial colonisation, extracellular-polymeric-substance accumulation, and biofilm development on the surface of the cherry fruit.
