MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511048726 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Delhi on May 20, 2025, for Piezoelectric Material-Based Echosounder.

Inventors include Santapuri, Sushma; Chalamalla, Vamsi K.; and Nair, Harikrishnan Saseendran.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: Examples of a piezoelectric material based echosounder (100) are described herein. In some examples, the piezoelectric material based echosounder (100) comprising a piezoelectric stack assembly (103) positioned between a tail mass (101) and a head mass (104). The piezoelectric stack assembly (103) includes a plurality of piezoelectric discs arranged in an alternately poled configuration. A pretension bolt (102) connects the tail mass (101) to the head mass (104). The pretension bolt (102) passes through the piezoelectric stack assembly (103) and applies a precompression force to the piezoelectric stack assembly (103). The echosounder (100) further comprises a casing (106) configured to house the piezoelectric stack assembly (103), the tail mass (101), the head mass (104), and the pretension bolt (102). The head mass (104) has a tapered cylindrical shape.
