Abstract: Disclosed is a phytosome-based memory-enhancing herbal tablet and a process for its preparation. The tablet comprises a phytosome complex of standardized extracts of Bacopa monnieri, Withania somnifera, Centella asiatica and Convolvulus pluricaulis complexed with phosphatidylcholine, optionally stabilised with cholesterol, together with pharmaceutically acceptable excipients including diluents, a superdisintegrant, a binder, a lubricant and a glidant. The phytosome complex is prepared by a solvent-evaporation method in which the herbal extract and phosphatidylcholine are dissolved in solvent and evaporated under reduced pressure to yield a phospholipid complex, which is blended with the excipients and compressed by direct compression. The resulting tablets exhibit acceptable hardness, friability below one percent, disintegration within about eleven minutes and cumulative drug release exceeding ninety-five percent within sixty minutes, thereby providing enhanced dissolution and bioavailability of the phytoconstituents for effective oral memory enhancement.
