Abstract: A physics-guided lightweight image dehazing system (100) with transmission-bounded atmospheric reconstruction, gated residual refinement, and re-hazing consistency is disclosed. The system (100) is configured to analyse one or more input hazy images to generate haze-sensitive cue maps. The system (100) is configured to pass the cue maps through lightweight trainable network to fused the cue maps with the RGB image. The system (100) is configured to estimate atmospheric light and a stable lower-bounded transmission map, wherein estimated atmospheric components are used to reconstruct an intermediate clean image through inverse atmospheric scattering. The system (100) is configured to refine intermediate restored image through a bounded residual correction controlled by a learned pixel-wise gate. The system (100) is configured to resize the restored image using the estimated atmospheric light and transmission map so that the model remains consistent with the physical haze formation process.
