MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541007405 A) filed by Spovum Technologies Private Limited on January 29, 2025, for Physics-Driven Microfluidic Pathway For Enhanced Sperm Filtration Movement Technique.

Inventors include Nishchal Halepalya Lakshmikanta; Shweta Hegde; Patil Kunal Dushyantrao; Kalludi Suresh Kishor Bharadwaj; Shilpa Ramachandra Raju; Ramnath Babu Thoppaen Jothilingam; and Santosh Bhargav Dharmapuri Bhuvarahamurthi.

The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.

Abstract: A sperm selection system for assisted reproductive technology includes a substrate holding multiple regions. A starting region contains a first medium with a first viscosity. A terminal region contains a second medium with greater viscosity. At least one intermediate region between them contains a medium with viscosity between the first and second. Bridges connect adjacent regions to facilitate sperm migration from the starting region toward the terminal region. The regions form a viscosity gradient increasing from start to terminal, allowing sperm to migrate through bridges based on motility and energy potential. Sperm reaching the terminal region are selectable for assisted reproductive technology procedures.
