MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631090770 A) filed by Dr. Tanmoy Karak on July 26, 2026, for Phosphate-Loaded Biochar Hydrogel Composite With Phosphate-Solubilizing Bacteria For Cadmium Remediation And Soil Fertilization.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a biochar hydrogel composite loaded with tri-calcium phosphate and impregnated with phosphate-solubilizing bacteria for the simultaneous supplementing of phosphorus and immobilization of cadmium in agricultural soils. Excellent swelling behavior, structural stability, and quick cadmium adsorption are all demonstrated by the composite, which removes almost 98% of the metal in five minutes. Within eleven days, embedded phosphate-solubilizing bacteria release about 0.26 mol of phosphate by converting insoluble tri-calcium phosphate into phosphorus that plants can use. While improving seedling growth and general plant development, the composite dramatically lowers cadmium uptake in rice plants. Experimental research shows that treated plants accumulate far less cadmium than untreated controls. For applications involving soil remediation, phosphorus control, agricultural productivity increase, and land restoration, the invention offers a versatile, environmentally beneficial solution.
