Abstract: The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical formulation of eucalyptus oil loaded fast dissolving oral film and a process for the preparation thereof. The said oral film comprises eucalyptus oil standardised in 1,8-cineole at 5 to 15 percent by weight, dispersed within a film forming matrix of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and polyvinyl alcohol, plasticized with polyethylene glycol 400 and glycerol, solubilised by polysorbate 80, and sweetened by mannitol and sucralose. The film is prepared by a solvent casting process. The optimised film disintegrates within 19 seconds, exhibits drug content above 99 percent, releases more than 94 percent of the loaded oil within 5 minutes, and demonstrates significant antitussive, mucolytic, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity against respiratory pathogens, thereby providing a stable, palatable and patient-compliant dosage form for symptomatic treatment of cough, sore throat and upper respiratory tract infections.
