Abstract: As a consequence of the growing demand for eco- friendly and cost-effective transportation systems, the integration of renewable energy sources in electric vehicles (EVs) has gained significant attention in recent years. In this study, the performance analysis of a brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive system powered by a solar photovoltaic (PV) source is presented, incorporating a Zeta DC-DC converter along with a regenerative braking system. The Zeta converter effectively regulates the DC-link voltage under varying PV conditions while maintaining a constant output voltage without polarity inversion and ensures smooth input-output current characteristics, thereby enhancing system stability and reducing ripple. Furthermore, a feedback control mechanism is implemented to achieve stable operation during both motoring and regenerative modes, where during motoring operation energy is transferred from the PV source to the BLDC motor for controlled speed and torque, and during braking the motor operates as a generator, converting kinetic energy into electrical energy which is fed back to the DC-link through the Zeta converter. The proposed system is modeled and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink, and its performance is validated through detailed analysis of output waveforms, confirming the effectiveness of the converter and control strategy under different operating conditions.
