MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621096226 A) filed by Parag Ramesh Nemade; and Sakshi S Tak on August 10, 2026, for Pegylated Graphene Oxide Demulsifier And A Process For Demulsification Of Crude Oil-In-Water Emulsions.
Inventors include Parag Ramesh Nemade; and Sakshi S Tak.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: A demulsifier for crude oil-in-water emulsions comprises graphene oxide bearing covalently grafted polyethylene glycol chains of weight-average molecular weight 1,000 to 2,000 g/mol, obtained by chlorinating graphene oxide and thereafter grafting the polyethylene glycol in the presence of a tertiary amine base. The demulsifier has a static water contact angle of 65° to 95° and localises at the oil-water interface, weakening the interfacial film and promoting droplet coalescence. Added at 0.01 to 5,000 ppm and settled at 20 °C to 90 °C, it gives efficiencies of up to 97.9% with phase separation in about ten minutes, whereas polyethylene glycol outside the stated molecular weight range requires five to seven days. Performance is maintained across range of crude oils and improves with increasing salinity.
