Abstract: Abstract: The present invention relates to a nicorandil-loaded ethosomal gel for transdermal delivery in the management of angina pectoris. Nicorandil ethosomes were prepared using phospholipids and ethanol by the cold method and incorporated into a Carbopol gel base. The optimized formulation showed suitable vesicle size, high entrapment efficiency, acceptable pH, viscosity, spreadability, and uniform drug content. FTIR studies confirmed the compatibility of nicorandil with the selected excipients. The formulation exhibited sustained and controlled drug release for up to 360 minutes, demonstrating improved drug retention and release characteristics. The ethosomal carrier system enhances skin permeation by improving the penetration of nicorandil across the stratum corneum. The developed transdermal gel may reduce fluctuations in plasma drug concentration, improve patient compliance, and minimize the frequency of administration. The invention provides a promising alternative to conventional oral dosage forms for the effective and prolonged management of angina pectoris.
