Abstract: The present invention relates to a passive solar tracking apparatus (1) for automatically orienting a solar energy collection assembly (11) in accordance with the apparent movement of the sun. The apparatus comprises a base plate (3), a pillar (2), a solar energy collection assembly (11), a gear transmission assembly (21), a motion conversion assembly (31), and a thermal actuation assembly (41). The thermal actuation assembly (41) includes a quartz tube assembly (42) housing a shape memory alloy spring (43) and a heat-transfer medium (46), wherein thermally induced displacement of the spring (43) is transmitted through a spring rod (45) to the motion conversion assembly (31), and subsequently to the gear transmission assembly (21) for rotating the solar energy collection assembly (11). The apparatus operates without electrical motors, electronic sensors, programmable controllers, batteries, or external electrical power, providing a reliable, low-maintenance, and energy-efficient passive solar tracking solution.
