MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641090165 A) filed by Srm Institute Of Science And Technology Formerly Known As Srm University on July 24, 2026, for Palmyra Flower-Derived Activated Carbon, Preparation Thereof, And Applications.

Inventors include D. Nagarajan; and A. V. Radhamani.

The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a process (200) for preparing Palmyra-flower-derived hierarchical porous activated carbon (212) and a symmetric supercapacitor (600) comprising the same. Palmyra flower biomass (202) is dried, thermally treated, ground to obtain a carbon precursor (206), and hydrothermally carbonized in an autoclave (208) to form hydrochar. The hydrochar is impregnated with potassium hydroxide at a dry-weight ratio of 1:3 and thermally activated at about 800°C under argon in a tubular furnace (210). The activated material is acid-washed, water-washed, dried, and recovered as activated-carbon powder (214). The activated carbon (212) has an interconnected hierarchical microporous and mesoporous structure, a specific surface area of about 4600 m²/g, and a specific capacitance of about 553 F/g at 1 A/g, thereby enabling ion transport, high charge storage, and prolonged cycling stability.
