Abstract: The present invention relates to a pristine rice husk biochar and its application as an efficient, sustainable, and low-cost adsorbent for the removal of Rhodamine-B dye from contaminated wastewater. The biochar is prepared from agricultural rice husk through a controlled pyrolysis process under oxygen-limited conditions without the use of chemical activation, acid or alkali treatment, or metal nanoparticle modification. The prepared paddy rice husk biochar possesses a highly porous carbonaceous structure with abundant surface-active sites that facilitate efficient adsorption of Rhodamine-B molecules. The surface morphology of the biochar is characterized by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), confirming the presence of interconnected micro- and mesoporous structures that enhance dye adsorption. The adsorption process is optimized by varying solution pH, adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration, and contact time. Under optimum conditions of pH 9, 1100 mg of paddy rice husk biochar, 10 mgL-1 of Rhodamine-B concentration, and 200 minutes of contact time, the adsorbent achieves a maximum dye removal efficiency of 98.1%. The invention provides a simple, environmentally friendly, and economically viable approach for converting agricultural waste into a high performance adsorbent suitable for treating dye-contaminated wastewater in laboratory and industrial applications.
