MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531025142 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Science Education And Research Iiser Kolkata on March 20, 2025, for Oxidized Crystalline Cellulose Nanospheres And Method For Preparation Thereof.

Inventors include Debasmita Chatterjee; Anish Gangopadhyay; Abinash Padhy; Swaminathan Sivaram; and Sayam Sen Gupta.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a biocompatible, sustainable oxidized crystalline cellulose nanospheres and to the method for preparation thereof. The present invention further relates to a single-step, solvent-free method of preparation of said oxidized crystalline cellulose nanospheres from biomass. The method of the present invention employs a novel catalyst of formula (II). The oxidized crystalline cellulose nanospheres of the present invention may be widely used in a variety of applications.
