MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641115181 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Tiruchirappalli on September 25, 2026, for Organic–inorganic Phase Change Material And Its Composite For Heat Storage And Preparation Process Thereof.
Inventors include Raval, Falgun Keyoor; and Dhanarathinam, Ruben Sudhakar.
The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an organic–inorganic phase change material comprising organic-inorganic cocrystals, and a composite thereof with a thermophysically enhancing additive for heat storage. The phase change material comprises organic-inorganic cocrystals of an organic hydroxyl-bearing compound with an inorganic species, formed through non-covalent intermolecular interactions to provide a stable crystalline phase with repeatable phase transition behaviour. The invention also relates to processes for preparing the phase change material and a biochar-laden composite, wherein the biochar is derived from deoiled cashewnut shells and enhances thermal transport while substantially retaining the phase transition characteristics. The disclosed materials are suitable for thermal energy storage, waste-heat recovery, solar-thermal storage, and related medium-temperature heat management applications.
