Abstract: The current invention dealt with the formulation of a novel oral nano- vaccine for poultry against Salmonella Typhimurium. The nano- vaccine comprised of total outer membrane proteins of Salmonella Typhimurium adjuvanted with chitosan nanDparticles. The size of nano-particles was less than 50 nm. Particles were stable and pure as evaluated by zeta potential analysis and Energy Dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy respectively. The immune potential of nano- vaccine formulation was tested in poultry birds. In poultry birds, nano- vaccine formulation induced humoral, cell mediated and mucosal immune response. It also produced protective immune response as reduced bacterial shedding was observed in vaccinated birds. Nanovaccine formulation was tested for toxicity by assessing organ-specific markers and hematological parameters, revealing no toxicity in organs like liver and kidney. Hence, nano- vaccine formulation was found to be non toxic, safe and efficacious.
