Abstract: ABSTRACT OPTIMIZING CONTROL PLANE LOAD IN DISAGGREGATED NETWORKS Described herein is a network node for supporting communication between a User Equipment (UE) and a radio access network, the network node configured to support at least one of distributed unit (DU) functionality or a layer 2 protocol of the radio access network and capable of handling a UE-Control Plane (UE-CP) procedure to control a UE connection with the radio access network through Radio Resource Control (RRC) communication via a UE context, the network node comprising: at least one processor; and at least one memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the network node at least to: obtain, from a core network, UE context information and UE preference information associated with an incoming UE attempting to establish a RRC connection with the radio access network, the UE context information usable for conducting the UE-CP procedure with respect to the incoming UE, and the UE preference information indicative of whether the incoming UE is a preferential UE and/or a latency- sensitive UE with which the UE-CP procedure shall be conducted preferentially; determine, based on one or more of the UE preference information and a current RRC load of the network node in comparison to one or more load thresholds for a RRC load with respect to the network node, whether a UE-CP handler for setting up a UE context with respect to the incoming UE to establish the RRC connection of the incoming UE with the radio access network shall be allocated at the network node; and in case of a determination that the UE-CP handler with respect to the incoming UE shall be allocated at the network node, set up the UE context with respect to the incoming UE based on the UE context information associated with the incoming UE.
