Abstract: The present invention discloses an effective and sustainable method for producing biochar from agricultural wastes including corncob, rice husk, and coconut shell through controlled pyrolysis at 350°C and 450°C, followed by its application as a low-cost adsorbent for color removal from treated wastewater. The process optimizes biochar production by evaluating yield, pH, proximate composition, and thermal stability across different feedstocks and temperatures. Comprehensive characterization reveals that corncob offers high yield, coconut shell provides superior fixed carbon content, and all biochars exhibit alkaline properties suitable for adsorption. When applied in wastewater treatment, the biochars demonstrate excellent color removal efficiencies, with coconut shell biochar achieving the highest performance of up to 94% under optimized conditions of 0.3 g/L dosage and 120 minutes detention time. This innovation transforms abundant agricultural residues into valuable environmental remediation materials, promoting waste valorization, circular economy principles, and affordable water treatment solutions.
