MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641078485 A) filed by Mlr Institute Of Technology on June 25, 2026, for Optimization Of Naca 2412 Airfoil Using Camber Morphing Mechanism.

Inventor includes Mr. Jyothula Sunil Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the optimization of a NACA 2412 air foil using a camber morphing mechanism to enhance aerodynamic performance. The system employs a Fishbone Active Camber (FishBAC) structure consisting of a flexible spine, elastomeric skin, and actuation mechanism to achieve smooth and continuous air foil deformation. Unlike conventional flapped air foils, the proposed morphing system eliminates abrupt geometric discontinuities, thereby reducing drag and improving lift efficiency. Computational simulations are conducted under controlled conditions to evaluate the performance of both unmorphed and morphed air foils. The results indicate that the morphing air foil achieves up to 25% improvement in lift coefficient with only a marginal increase in drag. The invention is particularly suitable for small unmanned aerial vehicles and micro aerial vehicles, where lightweight and adaptive aerodynamic performance is essential. The proposed system provides a reliable, efficient, and structurally feasible solution for advanced air foil optimization in modern aerospace applications.
