MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511018549 A) filed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited on March 03, 2025, for Optical Fuel Level Switch With Inbuilt Emi/Emc And Lightning Compatibility For Airborne Application.

Inventors include Ajay Kumar Verma; Arun Bansal; and Rahul Gupta.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: An Optical Fuel Level Switch (1) designed for aircraft fuel tank able to differentiate between presence or absence of fuel and provides output in form of electrically 'Open' (i.e. applied DC voltage) or 'Close' (i.e. 0 VDC), comprising of Electronic Process Card Assembly (8), Protection Card Assembly (9), Optical Level sensor (13), receptacle cable assembly (7) in one metallic embodiment. The Optical Fuel Level Switch works on Snell's law and principle of total internal reflection. The apparatus is having in built EMI I EMC ( as per MIL-STD-461G), Power Supply (as per MIL-STD- 704D) and Lightning compatibility (as per RTCA DO 160G) and feature of long term operation in fuel (Jet A-1) of wide temperature range (from -40 degC to +120 degC).
