Abstract: A method of operating a draft fan in a plant is disclosed. The method comprises operating the draft fan in a variable frequency operation mode via a variable frequency drive (VFD) to control gas draft. Further, a shutdown initiation of the VFD is detected. After the detection of initiation of the shutdown of the VFD, the operation of the draft fan is automatically transferred to a bypass connection mode. In the bypass connection mode, the draft fan is operated via a direct online (DOL) connection. In the bypass connection mode, suction dampers are employed to control gas draft. Thereafter, an initiation of operation of the VFD is detected. In an example, the VFD may become ready for operation after the fault has subsided. Thus, when the VFD is sensed to be ready for operation, the operation of the draft fan is transferred from the bypass connection mode to the variable frequency operation mode and the draft fan is run by VFD.
