MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411090220 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Jodhpur on November 20, 2024, for One-Step Fabrication Method For Superhydrophobic Steel Alloy Coating Using High-Velocity Oxygen Fuel Thermal Spray.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a cost-effective, an efficient, an industrially scalable and a single-step method for fabricating a self-cleaning, an improved, a high performance, a uniform superhydrophobic coating fabricated by depositing a coating precursor (single feedstock material) on the surface of the metallic substrate with a thermal spray of a High-Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF). The coating precursor comprises accelerated particles of an alloy powder in a partially molten state, the thermal spray of the HVOF accelerates the particles of the alloy powder to a supersonic speed and then deposits said particles on the surface of the metallic substrate, and the deposited accelerated alloy particles rapidly solidify upon impacting the surface of the metallic substrate and provides a hierarchical micro–nano structured surface morphology free from any compositional or structural gradient, a water contact angle (WCA) greater than 150o and a roll-off angle less than 10o.
