Abstract: An on-board diagnostic system for an electric vehicle battery pack and method thereof, comprises a battery pack 101 including a plurality of lithium-ion cells connected in series and/or parallel, a plurality of sensors 102 to measure at least one of individual cell voltage, pack current, and temperature, a battery management system (BMS) 103 to regulate battery operation , a dedicated on-board diagnostic chip 104 to acquire battery data received from the sensors 102, perform health monitoring, differentiate sensor faults and battery cell faults, perform cell-to-cell comparative fault diagnosis, classify diagnosed faults according to predefined fault categories and severity levels and generate and transmit classified faults to a vehicle control unit 111, the health monitoring includes detection of signal drift, noise abnormalities, saturation and signal dropout, and a method for real-time fault identification in an electric vehicle battery system.
