MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611089946 A) filed by Rishit Katiyar on July 24, 2026, for Omnidirectional Infrared Transceiver System For Relative Angular Positioning, Range Estimation, And Visual Slam Correction (irap– Vslam).
Inventor includes Rishit Katiyar.
The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.
Abstract: This invention determines the relative angular position, orientation, and range between two or more units, and corrects the visual maps that each unit generates independently. Each unit carries infrared emitters and receivers arranged at fixed angular intervals around its body. The emitters fire in a sequential, time-multiplexed sweep, and each pulse carries an identifier tied to the emitter’s angular position. When a unit receives a signal, it records which of its own receivers detected it and decodes the identifier to determine which emitter, and therefore which angular position, sent it. Together, these two readings provide the relative bearing and rotational orientation between the units without requiring a compass or any external reference. Signal strength across the receivers is used to estimate the distance between units. Each unit also carries two cameras facing opposite directions and performs visual SLAM. The infrared-derived bearing, orientation, and range data is then used to correct drift in the visual output, determine the full three-dimensional relative position between the units, and align the independently built maps into a single shared frame. The system has no moving parts and requires no external anchoring, making it suitable for field use.
