The system (100) comprises a camera unit (102), a user interface (104), a processing unit (108), and a memory (110). The camera unit (102) captures video data of the environment, while the processing unit (108) identifies and tracks the object and stores its observed location and corresponding timestamp in the memory (110). The processing unit (108) updates the values in memory (110) when the object is detected at a different location. The user interface (104) receives a user request for locating the object and provides information indicative of the last observed location, including an image, video frame, or audible indication.
