Abstract: ABSTRACT [0019] The invention concerns a portable soil nutrient profiling system named NutriRhizo, designed for rapid soil nutrient screening using a reactive microzone array and colorimetric analysis. It includes a soil sample preparation and extraction unit, a reactive microzone array, a controlled imaging chamber, a smartphone interface, an electronic control and power module, and an image-analysis system. The reactive microzone array contains separate reagent zones corresponding to specific soil parameters, such as nitrate, ammonium, phosphorus, and pH, along with a reference zone for normalization. When the prepared soil extract is introduced into the array, it interacts with the nutrient-specific reagents, producing measurable colorimetric responses. Controlled illumination within the imaging chamber provides standardized imaging conditions, and a smartphone camera captures the spatial distribution of the resulting color changes. The captured images are analyzed to identify the sensing zones, compensate for illumination and imaging variations using the reference zone, extract colorimetric data, and estimate the corresponding soil nutrient levels based on calibration data. Thus, NutriRhizo integrates soil sample preparation, multi-parameter colorimetric sensing, optical imaging, reference-based normalization, and digital image analysis into a single portable platform. The invention aims to provide a compact and user-friendly tool for rapid soil nutrient screening without requiring conventional laboratory instrumentation.
