MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411104072 A) filed by Lovely Professional University on December 28, 2024, for Nutrient-Rich Ornamental Fish Feed Using Black Soldier Fly Larvae.

Inventor includes Dr. Biplab Pal.

The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.

Abstract: The present invention pertains to a nutrient-rich ornamental fish feed using black soldier fly larvae to enhance fish health and appearance. The feed formulation includes defatted maggot larvae powder, plant-based protein sources like spirulina and soybean meal, providing essential amino acids and antioxidants. It also features carotenoid-rich color enhancers such as marigold petal powder and red pepper powder, promoting natural fish coloration. Encapsulated nutrients including essential vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids ensure slow nutrient release to prevent leaching. The inclusion of prebiotics and probiotics like inulin, Lactobacillus, and Bacillus subtilis strains supports digestive health and immunity. Natural binding agents such as cassava starch and guar gum maintain pellet integrity and stability in water. The formulation is processed into pellets through mixing, extruding or cold-pressing, and drying, preserving structure and palatability in water. This invention falls within the technical field of aquaculture nutrition and feed technology.
