Abstract: The increasing demand for sustainable agricultural practices, coupled with the challenges of water scarcity and improper organic waste disposal, has created a need for integrated and resource-efficient farming solutions. Conventional irrigation methods often lead to excessive water usage and uneven distribution, while a significant portion of biodegradable household waste is discarded without effective utilization. Addressing these concerns, this paper presents the design and development of an integrated system, NutriDrip, which combines organic waste processing with an automated drip irrigation mechanism to achieve efficient water and nutrient management. The proposed system is designed to convert organic waste such as food residues, vegetable peels, and garden waste into a usable form of nutrient-rich liquid fertilizer through a controlled vermicomposting process. Initially, the collected waste is subjected to mechanical size reduction to improve decomposition efficiency, after which it is introduced into a vermicomposting chamber where biological decomposition takes place with the help of earthworms and microorganisms. The liquid byproduct generated during this process is passed through a filtration unit to remove solid impurities, ensuring that only clean nutrient solution is collected in the storage tank. This step is essential to maintain the reliability of the irrigation system and prevent clogging in pipelines. To ensure efficient utilization of water, the system incorporates an automated control mechanism based on real-time soil conditions. A soil moisture sensor continuously monitors the moisture level in the soil and transmits the data to a microcontroller-based control unit. Based on predefined threshold values, the control unit regulates the operation of a water pump through a relay module. When the soil moisture level falls below the desired limit, the system automatically initiates irrigation by supplying nutrient-rich water through a drip irrigation network. Once the required moisture level is achieved, the pump is turned off, thereby preventing overirrigation and conserving water. This closed-loop feedback system ensures precise control over irrigation while minimizing human intervention. In conclusion, the NuthDrip system demonstrates a practical and scalable approach to smart irrigation and organic waste management. By combining automated control with natural nutrient generation, the system promotes efficient resource utilization and supports sustainable agricultural practices. The proposed model has the potential to be further enhanced with advanced technologies such as loT-based monitoring and data-driven optimization, making it suitable for future smart farming applications.
