Abstract: Provided is a method for preparation of Amyl Meta Cresol (AMC) of formula (I) , said method comprising subjecting valeryl m-cresol (V) to Wolff-Kishner Reduction conditions utilizing hydrazine hydrate and a strong acid and a strong base in sequence and in the presence of an organic solvent to form AMC of formula I. More particularly the method comprises reacting valeryl m-cresol of formula (V) with hydrazine hydrate in presence of an organic solvent and a strong acid in the presence of an organic solvent to form the hydrazone derivative of formula (VIII), and reacting the hydrazone derivative (VIII), either after isolation or in situ without isolation, with a strong base and in the presence of an organic solvent to form AMC of formula (I). Also provided is the intermediate hydrazone compound (VIII).
