MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641126272 A) filed by Dr. Ravi Jarapula; Mrs. Perika Parimala; and Professor Dr. Manda Sarangapani on October 23, 2026, for Novel Hybrid Pharmacophore Compounds For Enhanced Therapeutic Activity Against Drug-Resistant Microbial Pathogens.

Inventors include Dr. Ravi Jarapula; Mrs. Perika Parimala; and Professor Dr. Manda Sarangapani.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to novel hybrid pharmacophore compounds designed for antimicrobial activity against drug-resistant microbial pathogens. The compounds comprise a first heterocyclic antimicrobial pharmacophore covalently linked to a second heterocyclic pharmacophore through a chemically stable linker, thereby providing a single molecular entity capable of interacting with multiple microbial targets. In preferred embodiments, the hybrid compounds comprise substituted benzimidazole or quinazolinone moieties associated with triazole, thiazole, oxadiazole, imidazole, or related heterocyclic groups. The compounds may be present as pharmaceutically acceptable salts, solvates, stereoisomers, prodrugs, or mixtures thereof and may be formulated in oral, parenteral, topical, inhalational, or localized dosage forms. The invention further provides processes for preparing the hybrid compounds and antimicrobial compositions containing them. The disclosed compounds are intended to provide improved potency, broader antimicrobial coverage, reduced susceptibility to resistance mechanisms, and enhanced physicochemical or pharmacokinetic properties against resistant bacterial and fungal pathogens in clinically relevant resistant microbial infections.
