MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531021826 A) filed by Central Silk Board on March 11, 2025, for Novel Formulation For Effective Cooking And Improved Reelability Of Muga Silkworm Cocoons.

Inventor includes Dr. Manjunath R. N..

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a method (100) for cooking Muga silkworm cocoons to improve reelability and raw silk yield. The method (100) involves preparing (102) a unique cooking solution with a powder-based surfactant and a liquid surface-activating agent at specific concentrations, ensuring that the silk fibers retain their natural qualities. The cocoons are submerged (104) in the solution and boiled for a time period of about 3-5 minutes, enhancing reelability to 47-61% and raw silk recovery to 48-56%. By utilizing a non-soda-based solution, the method (100) maintaining (110) the tensile strength and luster of the silk, resulting in a high-quality output. This efficient and eco-friendly process not only increases silk yield but also aligns with sustainable production practices in the silk industry. Figure 1 will be the reference.
