MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641099217 A) filed by Prof. Dr. Gowrish S.; and Dr. Vandana Sadananda on August 17, 2026, for Novel Carbapenem Synthetic Derivatives And Their Antimicrobial Susceptibility Profile Against Pseudomonas Aeruginosa.

Inventors include Prof. Dr. Gowrish S.; and Dr. Vandana Sadananda.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to synthetic carbapenem derivatives and their antimicrobial susceptibility profile against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The invention provides structurally modified carbapenem compounds designed to improve antibacterial activity and overcome one or more limitations associated with resistance to conventional carbapenems. The derivatives comprise modifications involving selected alkyl, aromatic, heteroaryl, heterocyclic, amino-containing, piperazine-containing, or related substituent groups while retaining an antimicrobial carbapenem pharmacophore. The synthesized compounds are characterized using appropriate physicochemical and spectroscopic techniques and evaluated against susceptible, multidrug-resistant, and carbapenem- resistant P. aeruginosa isolates. Antimicrobial activity is assessed using minimum inhibitory concentration, minimum bactericidal concentration, growth inhibition, biofilm inhibition, and time-kill studies. Representative derivatives demonstrate reduced inhibitory concentrations and improved bactericidal and antibiofilm activity compared with a reference carbapenem in illustrative experimental models. The invention further encompasses processes for preparation of the derivatives and pharmaceutical compositions comprising the derivatives with pharmaceutically acceptable excipients. The disclosed derivatives provide candidate antibacterial compounds for further development against difficult-to-treat infections associated with P. aeruginosa.
