Abstract: ABSTRACT TITLE: Non-Enzymatic Electrochemical Sensor for Non-Invasive Sebum Based Point-of-Care Parkinson's Disease Detection. A non-enzymatic electrochemical sensor and sensor system is provided for non-invasive point-of-care Parkinson’s disease detection using custom gold-thermal electrode as the sensor platform. The present cost-effective and highly sensitive sensing device detects perillaldehyde biomarker linked to oxidative stress in Parkinson’s disease, enabling early diagnosis through a simple and non-invasive method. The sensor operates via cyclic voltammetry (CV), oxidizing perillaldehyde to perillic acid, producing a distinct electrochemical signal at 1.2 V. The sample preparation is minimal, involving sebum collection using a gauze pad, followed by sonication, dilution, and filtration, eliminating the need for complex processing techniques like centrifugation. The electrochemical CV measurements take only a few minutes and demonstrate high selectivity for perillaldehyde even in the presence of common biological interferents such as glycerol, glucose, and uric acid. The sensor strip fabrication follows a simple and reproducible process, ensuring robustness and repeatability with strong potential for integration into point-of-care diagnostic systems.
