Abstract: A non-destructive electrochemical characterization system for assessment of corrosion in reinforced concrete and method thereof, comprises a controlled current source to generate a low-frequency periodic excitation signal for repeated stimulation of an electrochemical means within a reinforced concrete member, a pair of outer pins for injecting the periodic excitation current, a pair of inner pins for measuring a voltage-time response generated due to the injected current, a data acquisition unit for recording the voltage-time response over multiple excitation cycles, a processing unit to analyze the recorded voltage-time waveform based on a multi-RC equivalent electrochemical model representing concrete resistance, charge transfer behavior, diffusion processes, and passive film characteristics, a parameter extraction and interpretation module to determine electrochemical and corrosion-related parameters from the analyzed waveform of reinforced concrete member, and a method for electrochemical characterization and assessment of corrosion in reinforced concrete using periodic electrical excitation and time-domain waveform analysis.
