Abstract: Background noise in digital signals degrades signal quality and has a negative impact on the performance of signal processing systems. Good noise reduction methods are hence of need in contemporary digital signal processing applications. Abstract Introduction Among the several available digital filtering methods, the Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter is much preferred because it offers inherent stability and linear phase response. In this paper, it is proposed for modelling and reduction of noise in a software-based using FIR filter design. A noisy input signal is produced and subjected to an FIR filter that is constructed by setting an appropriate filter order and cutoff frequency. The proposed method is validated by studying the signal in time and frequency domain, with and without filtering the response. Simulation results show that the proposed FIR filter suppresses noise effectively while keeping key features of the original signal.
