Abstract: ABSTRACT NITROGEN-VACANCY DIAMOND MAGNETOMETER APPARATUS FOR NON-CONTACT SUB-PANEL FAULT LOCALIZATION IN PHOTOVOLTAIC INSTALLATIONS In a nitrogen-vacancy diamond magnetometer apparatus for sensing magnetic fields produced by current in photovoltaic string conductors, the apparatus having an optical pump (102) configured to initialize a spin state of nitrogen-vacancy color centers in a diamond sensor (101), a microwave resonator (103) configured to drive spin transitions of the nitrogen-vacancy color centers, and a photodiode readout (104) configured to recover fluorescence contrast encoding a local magnetic field, the improvement comprises a field-programmable gate array (201) configured to reconstruct a two-dimensional current map from optically detected magnetic resonance signals received from the photodiode readout (104), an autonomous scanning platform (301) configured to advance a sensor head across photovoltaic panel rows while maintaining a regulated standoff distance between the sensor head and the photovoltaic string conductors, a position encoder (302) configured to record a location of the sensor head and to register each reconstructed current map to a physical coordinate, and a sub-panel address map (501) configured to convert a validated localization into a string and cell identifier and to report the string and cell identifier corresponding to a detected fault.
