Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method and apparatus for network initiated slice selection that includes receiving a first request indicating that a first network slice of the communication network for a user equipment (UE) is to be replaced, wherein the first request includes information associated with a second network slice to replace the first network slice, and wherein the first request is associated with a request for network initiated slice selection from an application function (AF), and transmitting, a second request toward an access management function (AMF) of the communication network for the AMF to initiate replacement of the first network slice with the second network slice. The present disclosure also provide a method and apparatus for an application function that includes providing a service to a user equipment via a first network slice of a communication network, sending, to the communication network, a request to replace the first network slice, wherein the request includes information comprising a service quality level associated with a second network slice that is to replace the first network slice, in response to receiving a notification from the communication network, an indication that the first network slice was replaced with a second network slice of the communication network, and providing the service to the user equipment via the second network slice.
