Abstract: The present invention relates to a nanolignin-chitosan composite designed for the effective removal of hexavalent chromium from wastewater. Dispersed within this matrix are nanolignin particles, characterized by a high surface area-to-volume ratio, which enhance the adsorption capacity. The composite is capable of undergoing surface modification through physical and chemical methods to optimize its performance for specific wastewater compositions. Characterization techniques such as BET analysis, TGA, XRD, TEM, SEM, and DLS are employed to assess the composite's properties, including surface area, porosity, thermal stability, crystalline structure, morphology, and particle size distribution. The primary chromium removal mechanism involves adsorption through processes like surface complexation, pore diffusion, ion exchange, and chemisorption, which together enhance chromium capture efficiency and stability in wastewater treatment.
