Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a nanoencapsulated topical formulation comprising neem essential oil and garlic essential oil for controlled-release delivery and management of diabetes-associated skin inflammation and neuropathy-related skin complications. The invention provides a nanoscale delivery system in which standardized neem and garlic essential oils are incorporated within a biocompatible polymeric, lipidic, liposomal or nanoemulsion carrier system. The nanoencapsulation protects volatile botanical constituents against premature evaporation and degradation while improving dispersion, skin contact and controlled release. The formulation may comprise surfactants, co-surfactants, stabilizers and antioxidants and may be incorporated into a gel, nanoemulgel, cream, hydrogel, lotion, spray or film-forming topical system. The formulation is prepared by controlled mixing followed by homogenization, ultrasonication, high-pressure homogenization, nanoprecipitation or related nanoscale processing. The resulting formulation is characterized for particle size, polydispersity index, zeta potential, encapsulation efficiency, morphology, chemical compatibility, stability, controlled release and skin deposition. Biological evaluation may include antioxidant, anti- inflammatory, cellular oxidative-stress, skin-irritation and diabetes-associated neuropathy models. The combined nanoencapsulation and controlled-release approach provides prolonged local availability of neem and garlic essential-oil constituents and is intended to support management of inflammatory and oxidative skin changes associated with diabetes and peripheral neuropathy.
