MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641124751 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 19, 2026, for Nanoemulsion-Loaded Core–shell Coaxial Electrospun Nanofiber Scaffold For Antibacterial Wound Healing.

Inventors include Natarajan Chandrasekaran; Dr. George Priya Doss C; Dr. Mohanraj Gopikrishnan; and Dhivyaveni Kanthan.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a nanoemulsion-loaded core-shell coaxially electrospun nanofiber scaffold for treatment of infected wounds. The scaffold comprises an inner core containing an 8% polyvinyl alcohol solution loaded with a Rifampicin-Colistin multi-oil nanoemulsion and an outer shell comprising polyvinyl alcohol. The nanoemulsion comprises Citral, Cardamom, Citrus, Lemongrass, Peppermint, and Eucalyptol, Rifampicin, Colistin, Tween-80, and an aqueous phase. The nanoemulsion is prepared by combining the oil and aqueous phases followed by ultrasonic probe sonication to reduce droplet size. The nanoemulsion-loaded core solution and shell solution are simultaneously processed through a coaxial electrospinning arrangement to form a non-woven core-shell nanofibrous scaffold. The core- shell architecture enhances entrapment and retention of the nanoemulsion within the nanofiber matrix and provides sustained and controlled release of antibacterial agents and bioactive oil components at the wound site. The scaffold thereby provides localized antibacterial activity against wound-associated pathogens while supporting effective wound healing.
