The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a nanofunctionalized nanofiltration membrane for water purification. The membrane comprises a fabric substrate formed from a blend of natural fibers extracted from a Dracaena trifasciata plant and cotton fibers. A plurality of metal oxide nanostructures, such as zinc oxide, are grown and immobilized directly onto the surface and within the pores of the said fabric substrate. The resulting nanofunctionalized nanofiltration membrane exhibits both photocatalytic activity for the degradation of organic pollutants in aqueous media and antibacterial properties. The invention also provides a method for fabricating the said nanofunctionalized nanofiltration membrane using a multi-step in-situ hydrothermal growth process, as well as a method for purifying a contaminated aqueous medium by passing the medium through the nanofunctionalized nanofiltration membrane under ultraviolet irradiation.
