MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611088581 A) filed by K. R. Mangalam University on July 21, 2026, for Nano-Cellulose Fibre And Fabric From Citrus Peel Waste And Method Of Production.

Inventors include Indrajeet Kumar; and Vikas Yadav.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: A spinning composition, a regenerated cellulose fibre, a fabric and a method of production from citrus peel waste are disclosed. The composition comprises, by weight, about eighty percent citrus-peel-derived cellulose, about fifteen percent bio-solvent, about three percent natural binder and about two percent citrus-derived bio-active. The cellulose, preferably a nano-cellulose, provides structural integrity, the bio-solvent provides processability, the binder assists fibre formation, and the citrus bio- active, such as a citrus essential oil, is retained within the fibre to impart odour control. A regenerated cellulose fibre formed from the composition is soft, breathable and lightweight, may be blended with a recycled fibre, and is formed into a fabric and garment. The method collects citrus peel waste, extracts cellulose, converts it to nano-cellulose, prepares the composition, wet spins and finishes the fibre, and forms a fabric.
