Abstract: ABSTRACT NANO-CAPPING - A COATING METHOD FOR MICRONEEDLE PATCH AND MANUFACTURING THEREOF The present invention relates to a nanocapping process (100) for the biologic coating of solid microneedles (104) and microarray patches (MAPs). The process comprises filling a hydrophobic mould cavity (102) with a biologic-loaded hydrophilic matrix (103), inserting a hydrophilic solid microneedle (104) into the mould cavity, drying the assembly while the microneedle remains inserted in the mould to generate an ultra-thin conformal nanocap coating (105) on the microneedle surface, and withdrawing the coated microneedle with substantially complete biologic payload transfer and negligible mould residue. The nanocapping process exploits the differential interfacial energy between the hydrophilic microneedle surface (104) and the hydrophobic mould surface (101) to drive conformal nanocap formation during in-mould solvent evaporation. The nanoliter-scale biologic volume confined within the mould cavity yields an ultra-thin coating with an extremely high surface-area-to-volume ratio, affording accelerated drying kinetics and rapid biologic dissolution upon transdermal application.
