MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202617043899 A) filed by Tata Communications Limited on April 06, 2026, for Named Data Networking For Containerized Applications In Internet Protocol Networks.

Inventors include Sood, Tushar; and Tahiliani, Mohit P..

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: A system and methods for providing named data networking (NDN) in existing traditional IP-based networks are disclosed. In one embodiment, a container network interface (CNI) at a computing node in a network is capable of handling "pure NDN" (or "native NDN") requests from containers hosted by the computing node. When a requested named data item is not present at the computing node, the CNI works in concert with CNIs at other computing nodes in the network via an NDN-over-IP overlay to obtain the named data item. Embodiments of the present disclosure are thus capable of providing named data networking capabilities to containerized applications without requiring the development and deployment of new networking infrastructure (e.g., routers, switches, access points, etc.) built from the ground up to provide pure NDN functionality.
