Abstract: An innovative multi-stage connection developed for improving water tightness at external-wall-joints-in-precast-high-rise residential construction using Precast Large Concrete Panel (PLCP) System. Precast buildings are assembled using PLCP's discrete wall and slab panels with horizontal and vertical joints. In Mass-housing projects where thousands of apartments are constructed in a single project using the PLCP system, this multi-stage connection has provided superior performance allowing efficient adoption at large scale. Conventional single-stage sealant-based treatment is vulnerable to leakage caused by workmanship issues, improper application, incorrect sealant selection, surface preparation defects and joint movement especially for high-rise construction of largescale projects with multiple towers where a system with a single level of defence is not sufficient against the multiple concerns noted. This innovation introduces an industry first approach with multi- barrier systems: a five stage treatment for horizontal joints and a four-stage treatment for vertical joints. It uses compressible barriers, a unique stepped profiled joint geometry, non-shrink cementitious infill, elastic sealing and internal waterproofing protection to create sequential resistance against water ingress.
